Remedial soft tissue therapy for the gym

I am an advanced sports remedial therapist in Paddington, Brisbane, and I work with gym-goers and lifters on the injuries that get between you and training: lower back, shoulders, elbows, knees, wrists and necks. Hands-on treatment that finds the mechanism and gets you back under the bar.

Why lifters pick up injuries

Load, volume and technique under fatigue add up. Most gym injuries are either overuse building quietly over weeks, or one overloaded rep that tips a tight structure over the edge.

The sore spot is often not the cause. A cranky shoulder can start in the mid-back, knee pain at the hip. I find that chain and treat it.

What I work on

Health fund rebates

Rebates are available through participating private health funds. Bring your card and I will give you the paperwork you need to claim.

How the treatment works

X-ray style anatomical render of an orthopaedic assessment, translucent teal-blue joint and gold diagnostic arcs on black

Assessment

I take your history, watch how you move, and use orthopaedic testing to rule things in or out. Black and white: positive or negative.

Treatment

Hands-on soft tissue work, with real time on the table. I treat the whole area involved, not just the point of pain.

Education

You leave understanding your own body. A few sessions in, you can tell me what is happening and why. That is what keeps it from coming back.

Common questions

Do I have to stop training?

Rarely completely. Usually we adjust what you load while we treat the cause, so you keep training around it. I will give you a straight answer once I have assessed it.

Is this the same as seeing a physio?

No, and it is not meant to replace one. My focus is deep, hands-on soft tissue treatment with real time on the table. If you need a physio, imaging, or a doctor, I will point you there.

Is this a sports massage?

No. A sports massage is a general, relaxation-style rub down. This is clinical treatment for a specific problem. This is not relax. This is treatment.
