Gym injuries Lower back pain from lifting
Lower back pain is the most common complaint in the gym, and the one most likely to sideline you. I treat it with hands-on remedial soft tissue therapy in Paddington, Brisbane, and work out what is actually driving it.
Why lifting loads your lower back
Hinge and squat patterns put big load through the lower back, especially as bracing slips under fatigue or the weight climbs. Sometimes it builds over weeks, sometimes one rep tips it over.
Where the problem starts
Often the hips and glutes are not sharing the load, or the mid-back has lost rotation, so the lower back makes up the difference. I treat the whole chain, not just where it hurts.
How the treatment works
Assessment
I take your history, watch how you move, and use orthopaedic testing to rule things in or out. Black and white: positive or negative.
Treatment
Hands-on soft tissue work, with real time on the table. I treat the whole area involved, not just the point of pain.
Education
You leave understanding your own body. A few sessions in, you can tell me what is happening and why. That is what keeps it from coming back.
Common questions
Is it a disc?
I do not diagnose disc injuries. That needs imaging and a medical opinion. I assess the soft tissue and how you move, treat what is in my scope, and refer you on if the picture suggests you need a scan.
Is this a sports massage?
No. This is clinical treatment for a specific problem, not a general relaxation rub down.
