Gym injuries Neck and upper back pain from lifting
Heavy carries, squats and pressing load the neck and upper traps, and a day at a desk does not help. I treat it with hands-on remedial soft tissue therapy in Paddington, Brisbane.
Why lifting loads your neck
Bracing hard, bar position across the back, overhead work and loaded carries all pull on the neck and upper traps, often more than lifters realise.
Where it comes from
A stiff mid-back and desk posture push load up into the neck. Free that up and treat the upper traps, and the neck settles.
How the treatment works
Assessment
I take your history, watch how you move, and use orthopaedic testing to rule things in or out. Black and white: positive or negative.
Treatment
Hands-on soft tissue work, with real time on the table. I treat the whole area involved, not just the point of pain.
Education
You leave understanding your own body. A few sessions in, you can tell me what is happening and why. That is what keeps it from coming back.
Common questions
Could it be causing my headaches?
Neck and upper trap tension can contribute to some headaches. I assess and treat the soft tissue, and refer you on if your symptoms suggest something that needs a medical opinion.
Is this a sports massage?
No. This is clinical treatment for a specific problem, not a general relaxation rub down.
