Common questions
Is this a sports massage?
No. A sports massage is a general, relaxation-style rub down. This is clinical treatment for a specific problem. I assess, I find the mechanism of the injury, I treat the cause, and I teach you how to manage it so it does not keep returning. This is not relax. This is treatment.
How is this different from a physio?
A physiotherapist and I do different jobs, and we are not in competition. My work is deep, hands-on soft tissue treatment with far more time on the table than a standard clinical appointment allows. If your problem needs a physio, imaging, or a doctor, I will tell you and point you there.
What happens in the first session?
We start with your history and what you want to get back to. I watch how you move and use orthopaedic testing to work out what is going on, then treat what I find. You leave understanding the problem and with a clear plan.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the problem and how long it has been there. Many people feel a change in the first session. Lasting results usually take a few sessions across a couple of weeks. I will be straight with you about what yours is likely to need.
Do you offer health fund rebates?
Yes. Rebates are available through participating private health funds. Bring your card and I will give you the paperwork to claim.
Do you diagnose injuries?
I do not give medical diagnoses. I assess the soft tissue and how you move, treat what is within my scope, and refer you on to the right professional if the picture calls for a scan or a medical opinion.
What should I wear?
Something you can move in and that lets me get to the area we are treating. Most people wear shorts and a t-shirt or activewear.
Where are you, and do I come to you?
I am in Paddington, Brisbane, and clients come to me by appointment. Get in touch to book a time.
Who do you work with?
Active people with a specific problem they want solved: golfers, gym-goers, runners, active retirees, and anyone who wants their body to keep working well. If you want a general relaxation service, I am not the right fit, and that is fine.
What if my problem is not sport related?
Then you are just as welcome. Bodies do not only break down on a field. Some of the most stubborn problems I treat come from the most ordinary things: a desk, a long drive, lifting a toddler, a weekend in the garden, or simply sleeping awkwardly. It is all soft tissue, and it all responds to the same clinical approach: find the mechanism, treat the cause, and get you moving properly again. You do not need to be an athlete, and you do not need to wait and hope it settles on its own. The sooner we start, the sooner you are back to normal, and that is exactly what this is built for.
