Runner's knee

Runner's knee is that dull ache around or under the kneecap that builds through a run and lingers after. I treat it with hands-on remedial soft tissue therapy in Paddington, Brisbane, looking above and below the knee for the cause.

What runner's knee is

Pain at the front of the knee, around the kneecap, driven by how the knee is loaded and tracked over lots of repetitions. It is usually an overuse and control issue, not a single injury.

Why it is rarely just the knee

Hip and glute strength, quad and IT band tension, and the foot all influence how the kneecap tracks. I treat the tissue and address what is loading the knee.

How the treatment works

Assessment

I take your history, watch how you move, and use orthopaedic testing to rule things in or out. Black and white: positive or negative.

Treatment

Hands-on soft tissue work, with real time on the table. I treat the whole area involved, not just the point of pain.

Education

You leave understanding your own body. A few sessions in, you can tell me what is happening and why. That is what keeps it from coming back.

Common questions

Should I stop running?

Often we manage load rather than stop completely. I will give you a straight answer once I have assessed it.

Is this a sports massage?

No. This is clinical treatment for a specific problem, not a general relaxation rub down.
