Running injuries IT band syndrome in runners
IT band syndrome is that sharp pain on the outside of the knee that tends to come on at a predictable point in a run. I treat it with hands-on remedial soft tissue therapy in Paddington, Brisbane, working the whole lateral chain.
What IT band syndrome is
The iliotibial band runs down the outside of the thigh to the knee. With high running volume the outer knee gets irritated and painful, usually at a repeatable distance or time.
Why it is rarely just the knee
Hip and glute control, cadence and training load all drive how the IT band behaves. Treat only the knee and it returns. Address the chain and it holds.
How the treatment works
Assessment
I take your history, watch how you move, and use orthopaedic testing to rule things in or out. Black and white: positive or negative.
Treatment
Hands-on soft tissue work, with real time on the table. I treat the whole area involved, not just the point of pain.
Education
You leave understanding your own body. A few sessions in, you can tell me what is happening and why. That is what keeps it from coming back.
Common questions
Why does it start at the same distance every time?
That predictable onset is classic IT band. It points to a load and control issue rather than a single injury, which is exactly what we work on.
Is this a sports massage?
No. This is clinical treatment for a specific problem, not a general relaxation rub down.
