Running injuries Plantar fasciitis in runners
Plantar fasciitis is that sharp heel and arch pain, often worst on the first steps of the morning. I treat it with hands-on remedial soft tissue therapy in Paddington, Brisbane, working the foot, the calf and the chain above it.
What plantar fasciitis is
The plantar fascia is a thick band along the sole of the foot. Overload it and it gets irritated where it attaches at the heel and along the arch, and it lets you know first thing in the morning.
Why it is rarely just the foot
Tight calves and a stiff achilles pull hard on the fascia, and training load, surfaces and footwear all feed into it. I treat the foot and the chain that loads it.
How the treatment works
Assessment
I take your history, watch how you move, and use orthopaedic testing to rule things in or out. Black and white: positive or negative.
Treatment
Hands-on soft tissue work, with real time on the table. I treat the whole area involved, not just the point of pain.
Education
You leave understanding your own body. A few sessions in, you can tell me what is happening and why. That is what keeps it from coming back.
Common questions
Why is it worst in the morning?
The fascia tightens overnight, so the first steps stretch it cold. It often eases as you warm up, then returns. Treating the cause is what stops that cycle.
Is this a sports massage?
No. This is clinical treatment for a specific problem, not a general relaxation rub down.
