Wrist and forearm pain in golfers

Grip and impact load the wrist and forearm on every swing. I treat golf wrist and forearm pain with hands-on remedial soft tissue therapy in Paddington, Brisbane, working the whole forearm chain rather than just the sore joint.

Why golf loads the wrist and forearm

You grip the club hard and absorb impact through the wrists, hundreds of times a round. The forearm muscles that control the wrist take that load again and again.

A mishit, a fat shot, or a change in grip can be the moment it tips over from tight to painful.

The forearm chain

The wrist rarely acts alone. Tight, overworked forearm muscles and an irritated elbow attachment are usually part of the same pattern, so I treat the whole chain.

How the treatment works

Assessment

I take your history, watch how you move, and use orthopaedic testing to rule things in or out. Black and white: positive or negative.

Treatment

Hands-on soft tissue work, with real time on the table. I treat the whole area involved, not just the point of pain.

Education

You leave understanding your own body. A few sessions in, you can tell me what is happening and why. That is what keeps it from coming back.

Common questions

Is it broken or just strained?

I do not diagnose fractures. If your history or symptoms suggest something that needs imaging, I will tell you and refer you on. Otherwise I assess and treat the soft tissue involved.

Is this a sports massage?

No. This is clinical treatment for a specific problem, not a general relaxation rub down.
