Golf injuries Golfer's elbow
Golfer's elbow is pain on the inner side of the elbow, where the forearm muscles that flex your wrist and grip the club attach. I treat it with hands-on remedial soft tissue therapy in Paddington, Brisbane, working the whole forearm chain, not just the tender point.
What golfer's elbow actually is
The tendons of your wrist flexors attach on the bony bump on the inner elbow. Grip the club hard enough, often enough, and that attachment gets irritated and painful. It is an overuse problem: load added faster than the tissue can adapt.
Despite the name, you do not have to play golf to get it. Anyone who grips and loads the forearm repeatedly can, from trades to the gym.
Why it is rarely just the elbow
The elbow is where it hurts, but the load usually comes from further up the chain: a tight, overworked forearm, a grip that is doing too much, and sometimes a shoulder or neck that is not sharing the work. I treat the pattern, not the single sore point.
What to expect
Tendon issues take patience. We usually see steady improvement over a few weeks, faster when the load is managed well between sessions, plus guidance on managing grip and load while it settles.
How the treatment works
Assessment
I take your history, watch how you move, and use orthopaedic testing to rule things in or out. Black and white: positive or negative.
Treatment
Hands-on soft tissue work, with real time on the table. I treat the whole area involved, not just the point of pain.
Education
You leave understanding your own body. A few sessions in, you can tell me what is happening and why. That is what keeps it from coming back.
Common questions
How long until I can play again?
It depends on how long it has been there and how it is loaded. I will give you a realistic timeline after assessing it, and we manage your playing load rather than guessing.
Do I need a brace or a strap?
Sometimes a strap helps in the short term, but it is not the fix on its own. I will tell you if it is worth using for your case and refer you on if you need gear or an opinion outside my scope.
Is this a sports massage?
No. This is targeted clinical treatment for a specific tendon problem, not a general relaxation rub down. I find the cause, treat it, and show you how to keep the load off it.
