Golf injuries Hip and glute pain in golfers
The hips and glutes are where the golf swing makes its power, and where a lot of golf pain quietly starts. I treat them with hands-on remedial soft tissue therapy in Paddington, Brisbane, including the deep glute and piriformis that often refer pain elsewhere.
Why the swing loads your hips and glutes
You drive the swing off the back hip and fire the glutes to rotate. Do that a few hundred times a week and the deep hip and glute muscles take a steady, repetitive load.
When the glutes stop pulling their weight, smaller muscles like the piriformis pick up the slack and get cranky, and that can refer pain into the lower back or down the leg.
Where the problem usually shows up
The ache can sit deep in the buttock, in the side of the hip, or show up as a tight lower back. The cause is often a glute that has switched off or a hip that will not rotate freely.
I treat the whole area and work out which structures are actually involved, so we fix the driver rather than chasing the symptom.
How the treatment works
Assessment
I take your history, watch how you move, and use orthopaedic testing to rule things in or out. Black and white: positive or negative.
Treatment
Hands-on soft tissue work, with real time on the table. I treat the whole area involved, not just the point of pain.
Education
You leave understanding your own body. A few sessions in, you can tell me what is happening and why. That is what keeps it from coming back.
Common questions
Is this sciatica?
I do not diagnose nerve conditions. Deep glute tightness can refer pain down the leg and feel like sciatica. I assess the soft tissue, treat what is in my scope, and refer you on if the picture suggests true nerve involvement that needs a medical opinion.
Is this a sports massage?
No. This is clinical treatment for a specific problem, not a general relaxation rub down. I assess, find the cause, treat it, and teach you how to manage it.
