Shoulder pain in golfers

The lead shoulder takes a lot through the top of the backswing and into the follow-through. I treat golf shoulder pain with hands-on remedial soft tissue therapy in Paddington, Brisbane, working the rotator cuff and the whole shoulder complex.

Why the swing loads your shoulder

At the top of the backswing the lead shoulder is pulled through a big range, then it decelerates hard on the way down. Repeat that all round and the rotator cuff carries the cost.

Most golf shoulder pain builds gradually as overuse rather than arriving in one dramatic moment.

Rarely just the shoulder

A stiff mid-back or a neck that is not sharing the work forces the shoulder to do more than its share. I treat the whole pattern, not just the sore joint.

How the treatment works

X-ray style anatomical render of an orthopaedic assessment, translucent teal-blue joint and gold diagnostic arcs on black

Assessment

I take your history, watch how you move, and use orthopaedic testing to rule things in or out. Black and white: positive or negative.

Treatment

Hands-on soft tissue work, with real time on the table. I treat the whole area involved, not just the point of pain.

Education

You leave understanding your own body. A few sessions in, you can tell me what is happening and why. That is what keeps it from coming back.

Common questions

Should I keep playing?

Sometimes we adjust load rather than stop completely. I will give you a straight answer once I have assessed it.

Is this a sports massage?

No. This is targeted clinical treatment for a specific problem, not a general relaxation rub down.

Settle the shoulder properly

Book an assessment and we treat the cause, not just the sore point.
